I agree.

It is like Oracle. How many of you are like, "Let's get Oracle for or DS?"
Not many of you. Why? Because it is top tier... we go with SQL Server because
it is good enough and then some... I think this is what will happen to Citrix.
PS7 (by the time) will be for the Enterprise and TS will be for the rest of
us. I ask you, how many TRUE enterprise deployments do you have? Most are
small deployments in an enterprise?

But, long live Citrix!

These other products (mine included) are NOT targeting the same market as
Citrix. That is the reason why they have not taken market share from Citrix.

The top of the pyramid will always use Citrix (for one reason or another like
too much hassle to get rid of it).

Many of the smaller players are taking the bottom/middle of the pyramid. And I
am a living proof of that. :-)

Yes, this is where it gets tricky. These other products are not free, but cost
a lot less than Citrix and yet have not taken market share from Citrix.

One thing worth noting- funny how we consider TS "free", just another indicator
of the genius of Bill Gates!!

Steve, I agree but they are not free! TS would be free. If we were forced
to buy TS then Citrix would still and always be a must have.

But, I'm agreeing, Citrix is a must have in many cases.

Doug,

Great points! The other thing to consider is that there are two or three other
products out already that add seamless and or published apps to TS and they
have not hurt Citrix to date.........

I agree with you Steve! Yah, the new TS stuff is very impressive and it will
cut in to some of the business Citrix picks as some customers will say, "Is TS
good enough?"

But, some want a product that will completely round out the TS experience and
supply killer management, security and control around the protocol. This is
where Citrix comes in to the picture. I think it will be like an Oracle deal,
I mean, people buy Oracle because they NEED the best but they settle for MS SQL
because it is good enough. (Until SQL 2005!)

I also agree with Steve's comments about some of this stuff shipping in 2007
and some of it is going to be further down the road. As we have always said,
Citrix is years ahead of Microsoft so it will be interesting what Presentation
Server will be doing in 2007 and beyond. But then it comes back to the
question, "Do we need that or not, is TS good enough to supply us remote access
and access to applications that are bandwidth intensive?" This is the
important question and this cannot be answered until 2007.

Of course, you must not just look at Microsoft for competition to Citrix. What
about the Blade PC, VMware Ace and/or SoftGrid applications? They all cut in
to the value-add that SBC brings to you. I guess it is time to reassess the
market, or will be in 2007.... ;)

I don't necessarily agree, Citrix is a lot more than publish apps. I haven't
seen the video, but I suspect that MS's version has a number of limitations
with things such as client version supported. Also, if this is a 2007 product
then I don't expect Citrix's customer base to wait until then, and, Citirx is
not sitting still !!!
