I just ran into a HUGE problem with Linksys. Their routers will NOT allow a class B subnet. They have a stupid drop-down box that stops at class C. I called their tech support and basically got a "Yup, it is designed for small networks." I don't care what size network it is designed for. If I've chosen to number my network on a 10.x.x.x or a 192.168.x.x and used a different octet in the 3rd position for several of my machines to differentiate departments, I'm screwed unless I renumber the machines into a class C. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Damian Hupfeld" <damian.hupfeld@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, August 16, 2004 9:53 AM Subject: [THIN] Re: Fun with Networking > http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=2588 > > I personally like Linksys - they are now owned by Cisco (for some time now). > They do not have as many features as some other brands, and their Web GUI is > again not as good as some others, but they are standards compliant and will > operate with other compliant vendors equipment. > > Of course I prefer Cisco above all others, but for a short term fix, go the > Linksys, and when you are done take it home and forget about all those > wires. > > > -----Original Message----- > From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf > Of Andrew Rogers > Sent: Monday, 16 August 2004 11:39 PM > To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: [THIN] Re: Fun with Networking > > I don't doubt that, but the few sites I looked around for wireless routers I > know of didn't mention anything or very limited stuff about vpns.. :o > > Andrew > --o-- > > >>> damian.hupfeld@xxxxxxxxxxx 16/08/04 14:24:13 >>> > A wireless router will be much simpler - I would personally avoid the > Netgear as they are not 100% standards compliant. > > > -----Original Message----- > From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf > Of Andrew Rogers > Sent: Monday, 16 August 2004 11:22 PM > To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: [THIN] Re: Fun with Networking > > Could you not fudge it with a wintel box with a wireless card running as a > nat/rras/vpn gateway stylee thang? > > Andrew > --o-- > > >>> GReese@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 16/08/04 14:16:24 >>> > Thanks Jan.
