Looks like we might have been bitten by this. Over the weekend we moved
2 of our heavily used Windows2003 file clusters to new, fully patched,
hardware. Everything was fine until about 1.5 hours in to production
when we started receiving calls from people that they could not access
large files (Personal Folders, Access databases, etc) but the small files
were fine. We forced a memory dump to send to Microsoft and failed back
to the original, unpatched, hardware.

Our Citrix servers that have been running the original ms06-040 patch
have been fine, but the file servers that it was applied to just blew
chunks this morning.

Following the release of the urgent security bulletin MS06-040 (9th
August 06), HP have now received an update from Microsoft of a known
issue that occurs post installation of the patch. Microsoft have
recommended a hotfix to resolve the issue, can you please advise your
customers ASAP of this known issue, details attached.
Any questions please refer to the HP MS Solution Centre.

MS06-040: The security hotfix is an update to netapi32.dll. Applications
that request a large amount of contiguous memory (e.g. Microsoft
Business Solutions - Navision v3.7, or certain Java applications) may
fail to start on Windows 2003 SP1 servers after applying the security
hotfix. Database applications allocating large amounts of virtual memory
to cache tables and other data can result in various application
failures after installing MS06-040. (This includes Oracle, SAP, SQL,
etc.)

A hotfix is available to address this issue
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924054/en-us
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924054/en-us>
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924054/en-us> ). It is applicable to
Windows 2003 Server SP1 only.

Still we recommend installing the Hotfix as first attacks are in the
wild for MS06-040. Please evaluate 924054 to address the possible memory
issues following MS06-040
