Yes, you will have to connect to license server manually. Also, you will periodically see an error message on the servers stating that it could not find a TS License server. Already had the DefaultLicenseServer key in CurrentControlSet (as well as ControlSet001). Started the service from the SERVICES icon. And the service started! Yay! :-) However, when I use the GUI to check for licenses, it fails to find a license server. I had to manually connect to my TS server. Once I did that, however, it did find all my license info properly. So I think I will run this way, until I can DCPromo another Win2K server, and install TS Licensing there, and transfer over the service. Thanks a million; you guys are great. :-) -----Original Message----- From: Shonk, Joe - Perot [mailto:JShonk@xxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, February 18, 2004 12:24 PM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: FW: DCPromo-ing a Win2K TS Licensing Server Try adding the -nodc to the ImagePath of the service (HKLM\System\CCS\Services\TermServLicensing) As far the DefaultLicenseServer, swap ControlSet001 with CurrentControlSet Joe -----Original Message----- From: Leone, Michael [mailto:MLeone@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, February 18, 2004 9:57 AM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: FW: DCPromo-ing a Win2K TS Licensing Server I made a new value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\TermService\Parameters\Defa ultLicenseServer Type is REG-SZ. Value is NetBIOS name of the server (i.e., ts-remote), not the FQDN (i.e., ts-remote.mydomain.com). I added "-nodc" to the START PARAMETERS line of the TERMINAL SERVICES LICENSING service, and re-started the service. Still fails with the same error 29, complaining that it needs to be on a DC. Then you will be able to start the TS License server. You also need to set the DefaultLicenseServer key on each Terminal Server. What do you mean, hard coding the license server? The license service will not start, because it is currently on my TS server, which is only a member server in my AD domain, and the license server will only run on a DC in the domain. -- ------------------------------------------------------------ Michael Leone, Systems Administrator Philadelphia Contributionship 210 S. 4th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106 <mailto:mleone@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> V: 215-627-1752 x1282 F: 215-627-5354 -----Original Message----- From: Adam.Baum@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:Adam.Baum@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, February 18, 2004 10:50 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: FW: DCPromo-ing a Win2K TS Licensing Server Mike, Don't know in your situation, but the problem goes away with 2003. I am moving to a 2003 AD environment and have been told by Microsoft support that I can leave my license servers where they are. The issue seems to be with 2000 AD. Did you try hard coding the license server into the registry. I have heard people say this is a workaround. adam "Leone, Michael" <MLeone@Contributi To: "'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx'" <thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> onship.com> cc: Sent by: Subject: [THIN] FW: DCPromo-ing a Win2K TS Licensing Server thin-bounce@freeli sts.org 02/18/2004 08:39 AM Please respond to thin I just upgraded my NT Domain to AD. I have a Win2K TS; this server had been a member server in my NT domain. After the AD upgrade, the TS Licensing stopped working, saying it could not locate a license server. Apparently, the TS Licensing server must run on a DC, when you have an AD domain. So apparently I need to either DCPromo my TS server, or transfer the TS licensing service to a DC. Since I only have 1 DC (at the moment; haven't built another one yet), I figure it's easier to just DCPromo the TS server. I realize that will cause a reboot, and interrupt my guys; no problem. My question - will I need to do anything else to get the licensing to work again? I won't have to re-activate all my licenses all over again, will I? Any help appreciated. -- ------------------------------------------------------------ Michael Leone, Systems Administrator Philadelphia Contributionship 210 S. 4th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106 <mailto:mleone@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> V: 215-627-1752 x1282 F: 215-627-5354 ******************************************************** This weeks sponsor Vizioncore, Inc. --> vc-iMonitor -
