Next he will tell you to use WINE to emulate windows in Linux. Back on topic, every time I have checked IE 6 has been more of a resource pig than 5.5. -Eric ~}-----Original Message----- ~}From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On ~}Behalf Of Roger Riggins ~}Sent: Monday, January 12, 2004 09:49 ~}To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ~}Subject: [THIN] Re: Even more performance monitoring ~} ~}I guess I didn't know that Metaframe, IE and Notes ran on Linux. I've correlated almost all the "hangs" on my main ~}server to which applications were running and how (CPU, RAM) the ~}applications were running. What I found is something we all knew: ~}Internet Explorer and Lotus Notes are two big apps. Each app has gone ~}above 250% CPU. If I read this corrrectly, it means that they were ~}taking ~}up the resources of 2.5 CPUs of my quad processor server. That's a lot ~}of ~}processing. They have also taken over 1GB in RAM, at times. These ~}are ~}per instance metrics. In other words, a when the CPU or RAM spiked, it ~}was ~}in a single session. Someone else could have been using the same apps ~}with ~}minimal performance hit to the server. ~} ~}I've also learned that when you tell perfmon to monitor ALL threads, ~}prepare yourself for a lot of work. Huge files, tons of entries...You ~}wouldn't believe what my screen looked like. There were so many lines ~}on ~}the screen that it took about 3 seconds to refresh every time I deleted ~}an ~}item from the graph. ~} ~}My next step is to convince mgmt to let me upgrade to IE6 and Notes ~}6..maybe even Windows 2003. ~} ~}adam ~} ~} ~} ~}******************************************************** ~}This Week's Sponsor - Chip PC - The Next Step in Thin Client Technology. ~}Choose from a wide range of options offering industry-leading, ~}innovative ~}thin client solutions ~}http://www.chippc.com/products/hardware/index.asp ~}********************************************************* ~}Useful Thin Client Computing Links are available at: ~}http://thethin.net/links.cfm ~}*********************************************************** ~}For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or ~}set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: ~}http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm ~} ~}_____________________________________________________________________ ~} ~}This message has been checked for all known viruses on behalf of Vivista ~}by ~}MessageLabs. ~} ~}http://www.messagelabs.com or Email: mailsweeper.info@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ~} ~}Vivista formerly Securicor Information Systems for further information ~}http://www.vivista.co.uk ~} ~} ~} ~}********************************************************************** ~}The information contained in this e-mail message is intended ~}only for the individuals named above.
