I guess I didn't know that Metaframe, IE and Notes ran on Linux. Silly me! I've correlated almost all the "hangs" on my main server to which applications were running and how (CPU, RAM) the applications were running. What I found is something we all knew: Internet Explorer and Lotus Notes are two big apps. Each app has gone above 250% CPU. If I read this corrrectly, it means that they were taking up the resources of 2.5 CPUs of my quad processor server. That's a lot of processing. They have also taken over 1GB in RAM, at times. These are per instance metrics. In other words, a when the CPU or RAM spiked, it was in a single session. Someone else could have been using the same apps with minimal performance hit to the server. I've also learned that when you tell perfmon to monitor ALL threads, prepare yourself for a lot of work. Huge files, tons of entries...You wouldn't believe what my screen looked like. There were so many lines on the screen that it took about 3 seconds to refresh every time I deleted an item from the graph. My next step is to convince mgmt to let me upgrade to IE6 and Notes 6..maybe even Windows 2003. adam ******************************************************** This Week's Sponsor - Chip PC - The Next Step in Thin Client Technology.
