No no problems there (according to the lack of any problems in the event log) I've enabled tracing on the authentication and that appears to be fine; nothing coming up wrt to failed authentication in the event log *unless* the problem sits on the server for a while - and then winlogon.exe throws a hissy fit and says it can't get the TSprofile directory for the user. But by that time all sorts of things aren't responding quite possibly due to the 'down' session: but I'm willing to keep an open mind on that. Hadn't thought of the last one - as I thought it was more to do with the 'down' sessions - I'll run a netdiag and dcdiag Cheers. The other thing I am thinking is to check off the DNS server to ensure that you don't have a bunch of invalid domain controllers in DNS. New RDP terminal sessions would start for a period after that - but then they started to hang on 'authenticating', locking up etc. etc. The down/disconnected session steadfastly refused to be anything other than that. After a while the Admin console running from another machine would happily taunt me with showing the 'disconnected' and down sessions on the server, but refused to show processes. Then it stopped playing altogether. So.. Has anyone else had a similar problem with that particular error message? ("The requested operation cannot be completed because the terminal connection is currently busy") Or, has anyone any additional ideas for investigating the 'down' sessions - looks to be that a process is refusing to die and that in itself locks up the creation of new sessions - it even impacts on existing sessions to the extent of the sessions locking up completely (which in turn go to disconnected, then 'down' and stay there) but finding which process it is proving quite character building.
