We will be rolling out notes later this year in the North east ( or at = least that is the plan this week). But for now Groupwise. It is definitely = going to be one domain but we are concerned that if we don't have multiple = DC's login times may climb which will piss off the users.=20 >>> lynch00@xxxxxxx 10/17/02 01:04PM >>> =20 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I agree with Joe on this. But, it really all depends on how your wanting to build the domain structure. I would strongly recommend using one domain with multiple sites. You can get away with one GC that runs DNS in every site. But, if memory serves right, you are running Notes, correct? The question is =3D redundancy... If the DC goes down, what will the users authenticate =3D with? If there are realitively few users (25 or less) and a decend link =3D back to corporate, then consider only having 1 DC at the site... =3D Otherwise, 2 at each site is good. If you are/will be using Exchange 2k =3D in distributed fashion, then keep in mind that it will hammer away at =3D the GCs. Each site will most like run DNS on the DCs. This is assuming =3D a single domain... If you planning multiple child domain (Which I think =3D is pointless) then you will need 2 DC for each site. There are some AD sizing tools that can be found on Microsoft's site. Another option, is to look at centralizing you IS resource, move toward =3D server based computing. You'll be able to do more with less. - -----Original Message----- From: Eugene Herman [mailto:EHerman@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]=20 Sent: Thursday, October 17, 2002 9:08 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx=20 Subject: [THIN] Domain Controller Scalability We are, for a variety of reasons, joining the Corporate Domain in =3D3D Corporate Domain in California. We do not have any BDC's here in the =3D3D Northeast (as in CT). As such we are trying to determine scalability in terms of how many =3D BDC's =3D3D or the Active Diretory equivalent we should plan for. There are 3 sites in CT - approximately 350 users in each site Two in NY ( About 50 miles apart- NYC and WhitePlains) about 75 users =3D per =3D3D site One in NJ with about 400 users Two in PA - smaller number of users Two in AZ - one in Tuscon - one in Phoenix. We currently have NDS replicas in each of these locations so we are =3D3D thinking we neeed to do the same for BDC's to smooth out logins and =3D3D authentication. Is there some formula for the number of users that can be easily =3D accomodate=3D3D d per BDC ???
