Actually they are WAY smaller than that. I just looked at my install and the largest DAT (called IDE files in Sophos) file that I have is 8k. ________________________________ From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx on behalf of Evan Mann Sent: Mon 11/29/2004 11:30 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Does anyone run virus scanner on XPe thin client? Sophos DAT files are text files and a few hundred K. They say they are the smallest in the industry. Most AV vendors overwrite their old DATS, or keep a history of 2 or 3, so space shouldn't be a huge issue. ________________________________ From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jim Kenzig kenzig.com Sent: Monday, November 29, 2004 12:25 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Does anyone run virus scanner on XPe thin client? I would if I could, the problem of course is the flash drive has a limited amount of storage so you would not be able to keep it updated too well with dat files because it would eventually run out of space. If you have a ton of storage available on your flash go for it. I'd look at something like the Trend SMB Antivirus solution though as it is a small download.
