Actually they are WAY smaller than that. I just looked at my install and the 
largest DAT (called IDE files in Sophos) file that I have is 8k.

Sophos DAT files are text files and a few hundred K.  They say they are the 
smallest in the industry.  Most AV vendors overwrite their old DATS, or keep a 
history of 2 or 3, so space shouldn't be a huge issue.

I would if I could, the problem of course is the flash drive has a limited 
amount of storage so you would not be able to keep it updated too well with dat 
files because it would eventually run out of space.  If you have a ton of 
storage available on your flash go for it. I'd look at something like the Trend 
SMB Antivirus solution though as it is a small download.
