Hi Dave,

But it does it after login, and just changing the key at that point isn't
enough.

You'd be better off using con2prt or defptr (reskit utilities) which use the
appropriate printer APIs.

I use it in a kix script:

IF (EXIST ("y:\windows\defset.ini"))
        SHELL "C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\CMD /E:1024 /C c:\acl\defprinter.cmd" ENDIF

defprinter.cmd:

@Echo off
"c:\Program Files\Printers\Defset IniToKey.exe"
"c:\winnt\system32\reginport" "Y:\WINDOWS\defset.key"

Defset IniToKey.exe creates a defset.key witch can be inported!

should work, should it not?

PS.

Kix, i'm not to confident with that.

Hi Dave,

Defset uses a file, defset.ini which gets stored in %windir%\windows, or
%userprofile%\windows if the user hasn't got a home directory defined.

If defset is run on login, it will read defset.ini to make sure you get the
same default printer each time.

The trouble you have with published applications is that if defset were to
be run by usrloogn.cmd, as an example, then it would stop ICA session from
closing down properly.

In this scenario, what I've done is used defset to define the default
printer and save the settings as defset.exe, but then I use a kix script on
login, called by usrlogon.cmd to set the default printer.

The bit of code that does this fairly simple:

In usrlogon.cmd:

Kix32 defptr.kix

---------- defptr.kix -------------------
$defptr=readprofilestring("%homedrive%\windows\defset.ini","windows","device

")
setdefaultprinter("$defptr")
------------- end defptr.kix ----------------

Rick

Hi,

I run a windows 2000 sp3 MF xp1.0 FR2 sp 2 farm (10 servers) 120 + Network
Printers 30 + Local printers (autocreated)

Running only Published Applications

Users can select thier default printer with a small app from the resource
kit. (defset)
witch also is published as application.

Instructions are given to useres to change thier settings as required by
user. logg of so the settings are written to the TSprofile for the user,
after witch users can use the other applications witch are published. yet
for some reason (unknown to me) sporadicly these settings disappear.

I got a new app from you guys (defset) witch creates an Ini file witch I
convert into a *.key file and import everytime a user logs on to the farm,
Results are still the same.

I really really need some help on this one ....Ive tried installing:

XE102W027.MSI
XE102W029.MSI
XE102W064.msi

ANYONE????????
