Hey Rick
Did you deploy sp3 in your environment yet? I'm not an M$ basher or
anything, but I'm not sure I want to install SP3 yet. I did look up the
Knowledge base article that you suggested....Q292548 - Terminal
Services-Specific Programs Stop Responding....however, I'm not sure that
this this applies. Forgive my ignorance but is it because one of these
programs stops responding that DELPROF views the profiles as active? You
wouldn't happen to have this fix would you? No worries if you don't.
If I can't this to work soon, I will probably look into the alternate route
that Angus and Bruce suggested
Thanks Again
Mario

Hi Mario,

The reason I specified either win2k sp3 or the hotfix is because we've had
issues with "stuck" profiles where the perofile wasn'r peoperly unloaded out
of memory. These look like logged in profiles to delprof so they don't go.

However delprof will generally always work properly after a reboot.

Rick

Hi Rick
thanks for this info. i checked the registry and saw the profiles in the
profilelist. Even after running the script. For clarification, if I run
delprof, it SHOULD delete all profiles that are not currently in use, but
not "broken" profiles...correct?

Thanks Again
Mario

Hi Mario,

Delprof will only delete profiles referenced under
HKLM\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\profilelist. It doesn't
actually know about the default user and all users profiles, but since
they're not listed under profilelist, they're left alone, as are profiles of
logged on users.

Typically, if a profile got stuck or corrupted, the "new" profile will be
something like username.001 etc. If you run delprof, the original "broken"
profile won't be deleted.

You'll need either win2k SP3 or Q292548 (fix stuck profiles) and a bit of
scripting to get rid of the profiles delprof doesn't delete.

Rick

Hello Jim
Thanks for replying. Unfortunately that didn't work for me.

Running W2K Servers w/ MF 1.8 in an NT4.0 Domain
Our Servers have three partitions
x:\ is for support/utility files
y:\ is our system drive also where profiles are stored
Z:\ is our programs drive

I saved our profile script in our scripts directory on drive x: I ran the
script from a command prompt and all went through with no errors. However,
the profiles did not delete. Thinking that the script (and accompanying
utilities) would have to be in the same directory as the profiles, I copied
them over and ran it again. Nothing. I looked on the M$ website and found
the syntax and parameters and tried them, still nothing.

So now my question is... does DELPROF.EXE look for a variable for the proper
directory?
I've copied the script below just in case.
I'm VERY appreciative for your help
Mario

THIS IS THE SCRIPT

@echo
REM This batch file gets rid of stuck profiles. x:\scripts\regunld.exe >>
x:\scripts\regunload.log echo y | delprof.exe :END

I've also tried
x:\scripts\DELPROF.EXE /y

Thanks again

Hello
We have an issue with roaming profiles not logging off properly. I KNOW I
KNOW...(check the archives) But hear me out. We have the registry set to
delete all copies of roaming profiles, and under most circumstances, they
delete just fine. However, at times when a users session is reset (after
being idle for 4 hours) or the computer hangs, the profiles will stick. I
downloaded the script that unlocks the registry for those profiles. I can
them manually delete them by right clicking on My Computer then going into
the profiles tab. My question is, is there a way to automate the deletion
of the profiles within x:\Documents and Settings ? I obviously can't write a
script to delete the contents because then the all users directory would be
deleted. Any suggestions or links that might assist me? Thanks in advance
Mario
