I made a simple .cmd file ages ago. It runs at startup (using the autostrt service available form thethin.net) and saves the default user and all users profiles, deletes the contents of the profiles directory, then restores the two that were saved. It may not be pretty but it worked for us! The servers are rebooted once a week. I use delprof in a shutdown script and the .cmd file below to catch the escapees at startup. ********************************************** echo TESTING MF7 with delprof and profile removal > m:\testmf7.txt cd\ attrib -s -h -r m:\winnt\profiles\*.* /S md allusers md defaultuser cd allusers deltree.exe /Y m:\allusers\*.* deltree.exe /Y m:\defaultuser\*.* cd "\winnt\profiles\all users" xcopy *.* m:\allusers\ /S/E/C/I/Q/H/R cd "\winnt\profiles\default user" xcopy *.* m:\defaultuser\ /S/E/C/I/Q/H/R cd\winnt\profiles deltree.exe /Y m:\winnt\profiles\*.* md "All Users" md "Default User" cd\allusers xcopy *.* "m:\winnt\profiles\all users\" /S/E/C/I/Q/H/R cd\defaultuser xcopy *.* "m:\winnt\profiles\default user\" /S/E/C/I/Q/H/R cd\ deltree.exe /Y m:\allusers deltree.exe /Y m:\defaultuser cd\ ********************************************** -----Original Message----- From: Mack, Rick [mailto:RMack@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 14 August 2002 12:37 To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: Deleting Stuck profiles - ok not so easy Hi Mario, Delprof will only delete profiles referenced under HKLM\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\profilelist. It doesn't actually know about the default user and all users profiles, but since they're not listed under profilelist, they're left alone, as are profiles of logged on users. Typically, if a profile got stuck or corrupted, the "new" profile will be something like username.001 etc. If you run delprof, the original "broken" profile won't be deleted. You'll need either win2k SP3 or Q292548 (fix stuck profiles) and a bit of scripting to get rid of the profiles delprof doesn't delete. Unfortunately that didn't work for me. Running W2K Servers w/ MF 1.8 in an NT4.0 Domain Our Servers have three partitions x:\ is for support/utility files y:\ is our system drive also where profiles are stored Z:\ is our programs drive I saved our profile script in our scripts directory on drive x: I ran the script from a command prompt and all went through with no errors. However, the profiles did not delete. Thinking that the script (and accompanying utilities) would have to be in the same directory as the profiles, I copied them over and ran it again. Nothing. I looked on the M$ website and found the syntax and parameters and tried them, still nothing. So now my question is... does DELPROF.EXE look for a variable for the proper directory? I've copied the script below just in case. I'm VERY appreciative for your help Mario THIS IS THE SCRIPT @echo REM This batch file gets rid of stuck profiles. x:\scripts\regunld.exe >> x:\scripts\regunload.log echo y | delprof.exe :END I've also tried x:\scripts\DELPROF.EXE /y Thanks again -----Original Message----- From: Jim Kenzig http://thethin.net [mailto:jimkenz@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, August 13, 2002 6:05 PM To: MarioV@xxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: [THIN] Deleting Stuck profiles - easy...I hope Create a script using delprof (http://thethin.net/delprof.zip) and the below utility (link may wrap) http://thethin.net/thincd/adm%20templates%20Policy%20and%20Profile%20Utiliti es/Unload%20Hung%20Profiles/regunld.zip EG regunld echo y | delprof.exe Regards, Jim Kenzig http://thethin.net -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Mario Villarreal Sent: Tuesday, August 13, 2002 6:07 PM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Deleting Stuck profiles - easy...I hope Hello We have an issue with roaming profiles not logging off properly. I KNOW I KNOW...(check the archives) But hear me out. We have the registry set to delete all copies of roaming profiles, and under most circumstances, they delete just fine. However, at times when a users session is reset (after being idle for 4 hours) or the computer hangs, the profiles will stick. I downloaded the script that unlocks the registry for those profiles. I can them manually delete them by right clicking on My Computer then going into the profiles tab. My question is, is there a way to automate the deletion of the profiles within x:\Documents and Settings ? I obviously can't write a script to delete the contents because then the all users directory would be deleted. Any suggestions or links that might assist me?
