I concur. We had a similar problem on IBM servers. It might be good to upgrade the main system BIOS as well as the RAID array firmware, if you're running RAID. Hope this helps. -Dave Melczer dmelczer@xxxxxxxx -----Original Message----- From: Roger Riggins [mailto:roger.riggins@xxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, February 17, 2004 6:19 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: DESPARATE FOR HELP Pauses ever since w2k SP3 I'm having the exact same problem. Happens randomly across the servers approx 1-2 times per week. User sessions hang after entering credentials.=20 I'm unable to log in at the console, but am able to browse admin shares across the network. If I try to stop/start IMA from a remote machine, it fails. XML restarts successfully. Rebooting fixes it, and is the only way so far that I can get it back up and running. Nothing is logged to event viewer. I've been fighting this for about a month, now. Yes, someone else has the same symptoms as I do. Hurray! Back to our story.... Ryan, is the general symptom goes something like this: User connect normally and enters logon credentials User waits forever because logon never completes. Admins cannot logon locally at the console either. Using CMC from your desktop may show people logged in Logged on users never notice a problem Only reboot clears the error This is what I get almost daily. Changing datastores did not help. I went from Access to SQL. I even reinstalled cleanly (yes, I had to reactivate all my licenses). I installed TScale a few days ago and it seems to help, but not get rid of the problem completely. The one server I am running it on has gone from three lockups a day to one. It's a little too early to tell if it really helped that much because I activated it Thursday. Given the long weekend and our flexible work schedules, it's a bit premature to say it has helped. One thing I do notice is that my farm that is only accessed by thin client devices only locks up once every 5 weeks or so. I think it has something to do with either drive and/or printer mappings. adam =20 "Ryan Lambert" <rlambert@NetSour To: <thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> ceit.com> cc: Sent by: Subject: [THIN] Re: DESPARATE FOR HELP Pauses ever since w2k SP3 =20 thin-bounce@freel ists.org =20 =20 02/17/2004 03:05 PM Please respond to thin =20 =20 We have server lockups at login... just after the username/password are entered. We have to actually reboot the server/s to gain connectivity again. Updated SCSI drivers, etc. Dual 1.2ghz with 1gb RAM, 2x 36gb 10k drives. It can have one user on it, and still do the same. We know it is not hardware... or at least, highly unlikely. It happens on 5 different servers randomly... and one of them that does not run any of the applications that the others do. We believe it is related to the data store... so we are moving one server out into a new DB. -----Original Message----- From: William Treloar [mailto:williamt@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]=3D20 Sent: Tuesday, February 17, 2004 2:06 PM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: DESPARATE FOR HELP Pauses ever since w2k SP3 Ohh the pain I went through with this one.=3D20 I updated every driver imaginable Rolled back to Service pack 2 but=3D20 the Server would just freeze for 10 or so seconds - I used diskmon to see when it was freezing and I found on most cases, it was either loading one particular app or when a user logged on .The app Ahh-ha but login on windows???, I was in trouble Have you done the necessaries and run perfmon, does your process queue length skyrocket?=3D20 -----Original Message----- From: Stratton, Doug MSER:EX [mailto:Doug.M.Stratton@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, 17 February 2004 2:12 p.m. To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: DESPARATE FOR HELP Pauses ever since w2k SP3 Thanks for the suggestions I will give them a try. -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Jeremy Saunders Sent: Monday, February 16, 2004 3:43 PM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: DESPARATE FOR HELP Pauses ever since w2k SP3 Have you updated the Compaq/HP drivers? This was the issue I had on one site when I upgraded them from SP2 to SP3. The pause was happening when users logged in and out due to disk access reading and writing their profiles. After updating the Compaq drivers, it came back to normal.
