Use VNC from here http://www.tightvnc.com/. It works really well. I set the
service startup to manual. Then when you need to use it, just start the
service.

Remember that even though you can connect to the console via RDP on Windows
2003, some applications will still detect that you are using an RDP
session. Even though you are acutually connected to the console they will
still not install. So you still need to use some form of remote control for
those ones as well, as "mstsc /console" is not always the answer.

There are a lot of solutions to this. If you want a M$ supported (and free)
one, try NetMeeting.
There are lots of IP based KVM solutions as wellâthose are my favorites.

I concur with Steve. I've installed Vector's PCDuo onto my Citrix servers
with no ill effects.

Connecting to console session may be a 2003 only feature - have been
running VNC on Citrix boxes without any issue as fallback and to install
apps from remote as it puts you at the console.

Subject: [THIN] Console session MetaFrame XP FR3 (Windows 2000)

I'm trying to remotely troubleshoot an application running in the
console session of a Citrix Metaframe XP FR3 farm, on Windows 2000
server (sp3). Unfortunately the application is only visible within
the console session. Under Windows Server 2003 I can connect to the
console using RDP via the command-line "mstsc /v:servername
/console", but I'm not aware of a way to do this under 2000. My
second thought was to try and shadow the console session through the
Citrix Management Console, however I quickly noticed that the option
to shadow the console session is grayed out.

Because this is at a remote location, and it's a customer site, it
would be advantageous to troubleshoot the issue remotely.

       1) Have I missed something? In looking into this I don't think it's
possible to use TS to get to the console of a 2000 server, but I
haven't found a whitepaper specifically saying this functionality
       doesn't exist.

       2) Does anyone have a work-around they could recommend? I'm very
hesitant to install VNC, Carbon Copy, etc. on this box, but if
anyone has already done something similar, I'd appreciate your
       input.

       Any thoughts?

       Thanks for your help.

       Nick
