Maybe so. But when one of the World's largest resources companies use
the Corporate version of said codec pack as part of their global desktop
SOE, I had to comply as part of their local Citrix deployment. I'm not
disputing your advice or providing a case against VLC or MPlayer
Classic, I'm just providing my experience.

This is nothing to do with times being a'changing. Codec packs ARE evil.
They are nothing but a crutch for the lazy, and frequently cause
problems.

        Times have changed Neil J But I do agree and take your point.
KLite was evil until I spent some time to understand what it was doing
to the registry, and why. You've just got to learn to tame the beast.
Some of my larger customers will only use Media Player, so I don't often
get a choice.

        Codec packs are evil, avoid them at all costs. My advice - use a
"codec-less" player (like VLC or mplayerc).

                Use the KLite Codec Pack standard. Works a treat.

                Just be cautious when installing it, as the K-Lite Codec
Pack assumes files and registry keys are in specific locations as it
attempts to validate them. In cases when they are not, such as the
Citrix Audio Driver, Citrix Audio DirectX Media Object (DMO) Filter and
Citrix Video DirectX Media Object (DMO) Filter, these registry keys and
values are removed.

                If you are manually installing it, you can say NO to
removing the registry keys. But if you are silently installing it, you
don't get an option. So after a silent install I re-import some registry
keys critical to the Citrix Audio driver.
