there are lot of people selling these ce devices that have no clue. The first two I bought here were like Jim's. No way to save settings or easily restore an image after a reset. No tools, nothing. And they seemed put out when I complained about it. they didn't know a thing about CE. Every time the battery ran out, they had to be setup again manually. All the wireless settings, ica connections etc took a while. Even worse if I had to do it over the phone with a nurse who was late with her work because of it. Just like the CE thin clients, these things come down to the management tools provided by the manufacturer. for those who care, we now buy the Neoware Voyager tablets. they have all the tools and support in place so these things never lose their configuration. And if you do a hard reset, all you have to do is pop a compact flash card in and run a utility and you are back again. Being able to do this requires acess that the hardware vendor has to include. I still recommend getting the hardware vendor to make the change and burn it into an image that you can re-flash the units with. If the vendor is unwilling they are lame- we have done this many times..... Steve Greenberg Thin Client Computing 34522 N. It would have to be called or instantiated on the client, though - having said that, the HTA could make itself the home page ;-) Neil > -----Original Message----- > From: Webmail [mailto:web@xxxxxxxxxx] > Sent: 18 December 2003 13:01 > To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: [THIN] Re: Clear History bar/cache on a Windows CE device > > > Maybe HTA, I'll have to check. > JK > > -----Original Message----- > From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On > Behalf Of Braebaum, Neil > Sent: Thursday, December 18, 2003 5:27 AM > To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: [THIN] Re: Clear History bar/cache on a Windows CE device > > > Jim - do you have either local scripting support for IE (ie > the local capability of running vbscripts), or the ability to > run HTAs (mshta.exe > - not as daft as it sounds, 'cos some system stuff (add / > remove) is often HTA)? > > Neil > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: Braebaum, Neil > > Sent: 17 December 2003 17:17 > > To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > > Subject: [THIN] Re: Clear History bar/cache on a Windows CE device > > > > > > The problem being - and this is why I replied like I did (ie hinting > > that some of this may be of use) is that server side stuff and > > general browser based stuff isn't going to be good enough. > > > > Code running normally within the browser, just won't have the > > ability to do what you want - ie either modify the registry, or talk > > to / manipulate the local filesystem.
