Hey Rick,

Thanks for the reply. Yesterday we were able to identify it as
ServerBoss. If you didn't get my post to the list and are curious as to
what fixed it, let me know and I'll forward you a copy.

Hi Ryan,

I'd check a fewther things:=20

(1) the number of fonts installed on the server, since explorer check
every
single font on login.

(2) what printer drivers you've got loaded. We had major issues with a
Lexmark printer driver that included an executable, lexdrv*.exe.

(3) The server PATH statement. If it has any network drives in it, this
can
majorlly slow things down. Applications putting there directories in
front
of %systemroot% and %systemroot%\system32 can also degrade startup
times.

With no on-one else on the server, run up the NT file system monitor
(ww.sysinternals.com) and have a user log on. It'll generally be a real
eye-opener. If you want to cover all bets, I'd be looking at network
traffic
out of the server at the same time, since that will often show up any
redirector funnies.

Regards,

Rick

Subject: [THIN] Citrix is slow loading Desktop

Recently, we have noticed severe degradation when logging in to Citrix
via
the network. Whenever a user logs in, it takes about 15-20 seconds for
the
Desktop to actually load. This happens on both Wyse Winterms and PCs
with
the newest ICA Client. We are currently running MetaFrame XP 1.0 FR2
w/SP2.
We run login scripts/roaming profiles, etc. off of a central server. In
addition to having restarted the main Citrix Server and the central
server
where profiles/farm database, etc. are stored... this is what we have
tried
so far:

=20

- Removing login scripts/profile directories from profile

- Disabling AntiVirus

- Stop Spooler Service and log on

- Check hard disk space / fragmentation

- Check CPU usage / Mem. usage

- Empty all .dmp files from user profiles / hard disk

- Clear Temporary Internet File cache(s)

- Check network latency / packet loss

- Verified Load Balancing is working

- Reindex Database / Optimize

- Check inbound/outbound traffic logs to rule out
DDoS/Compromise.

=20

Also note, that when logging into these machines over the network via
RDP,
the login time is near instantaneous... so it appears to be an issue
directly related to Citrix. Interestingly enough, the Master browser
locked
up a few days ago, and I believe this is around when the issues began...
but
I cannot seem to pinpoint any problems in the Windows 2000 Event Logs,
or
within Metaframe itself.

=20

Does anyone have any suggestions as to tracking this down?

=20

TIA,

Ryan
