Well I can just tell from a TS/Citrix perspective, where the product not
only works, but it is fully supported by Castelle. :-)

We have a Castelle Faxpress unit we are having trouble with. It's one of
the older 5000 series, not their new "Premier" class servers. The 5000
is a separate hardware unit, but it does need a Windows server somewhere
for file storage. Our real problem with it, however, is that it does not
fully comply with some important networking standards (concerning doing
ARP lookups, if you must know), and so does not work properly in our
network environment which consists of VLAN and Layer 3 switching.
Castelle admits this is a problem in their software (after we provided
some network traces pinpointing the problem) but has not committed to
fix it. Although their software has worked pretty well for us in the
past, this situation with the software and their reluctance to commit to
fixing it has started us looking for alternatives.

Their new Premier products are actually based on a Windows appliance,
and so as such do not need a server to go along with them .. They are
their own server. Castelle claims that this unit does not have the
networking problems the 5000 does (since it runs a Microsoft networking
stack, which should honor all the current networking standards), but
since they don't have a layer-3-switched test environment, they could
not confirm that definitively. They offered us a full-credit upgrade
from our 5000 unit to one of the Enterprise units, but it was still high
4 figures and we just couldn't see spending that kind of money to get
around a software problem they should be fixing anyway, especially since
we faithfully pay our support costs for the 5000.

Note that we are NOT using the Faxpress stuff under TS; this is just a
comment on Castelle's products and their customer service.
