Layer 2 redundancy means you'll float a virtual MAC address between the NICs. If you're using Intel-based NICs (which really is the way to go here), then you install Advanced Networking Services (iANS) and set up the NICs up in a fault tolerant team. There's no issue putting one server with two NICs on the same LAN/VLAN. Life gets a little more interesting if you start assigning multiple IP addresses to each NIC. Be careful. David J.
