You need to run adprep /forestprep and adprep /domainprep before upgrading.

Subject: [THIN] Changing Schema master

Hallo,

I want to upgrade Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003, during installation I get
warning âsetup must extend the active directory schema and/ or create
organization objects in the active directory.

 For more information I have domain controller server2003 on domain, Active
directory are upgrade for windows 2003.

To prepare active directory for exchange 2003 I ran;

 ldifde -i -f inetorgpersonprevent.ldf -v -c DC=X "dn path for forest root
domain"

Inetorgpersonprevent.ldf used from windows 2003 CD,

I get error â0 entries modified successfullyâ during importing directory
from file Inetorgpersonprevent.ldf

When I ran LDP.exe on schema master and search for mangled LDAP display name
attributes.

I got the following enteries..

***Searching...

ldap_search_s(ld, "CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=Forestdomain,DC=com", 2,
"(ldapdisplayname=dup*)", attrList,  0, &msg)

Result <0>: (null)

Matched DNs:

Getting 3 entries:

>> Dn: CN=houseIdentifier,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=Forestdomain,DC=COM

            1> canonicalName:
Forestdomain.COM/Configuration/Schema/houseIdentifier;

            1> cn: houseIdentifier;

            1> distinguishedName:
CN=houseIdentifier,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=Forestdomain,DC=COM;

            2> objectClass: top; attributeSchema;

            1> name: houseIdentifier;

>> Dn: CN=labeledURI,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=Forestdomain,DC=COM

            1> canonicalName: Forestdomain.COM/Configuration/Schema/labeledURI;

            1> cn: labeled

            1> distinguishedName:
CN=labeledURI,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=Forestdomain,DC=COM;

            2> objectClass: top; attributeSchema;

            1> name: labeledURI;

>> Dn:
>> CN=ms-Exch-Assistant-Name,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=Forestdomain,DC=COM

            1> canonicalName:
Forestdomain.COM/Configuration/Schema/ms-Exch-Assistant-Name;

            1> cn: ms-Exch-Assistant-Name;

            1> distinguishedName:
CN=ms-Exch-Assistant-Name,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=Forestdomain,DC=COM;

            2> objectClass: top; attributeSchema;

1>    name: ms-Exch-Assistant-Name;

I compare contents of inetorgpersonprevent.ldf with the attribute above, I
think that I have to do with only last Dn: selected on red.. I think that I can
change the CN= ms-Exch-Assistant-Name to msExchAssistantName, that is it.

I am very careful to make change on schema master, if is going wrong then I
have serious problem, before making any change, I want to make backup of schema
master, is backup of system state will be enough to restore schema master
configuration to old state?

May be somebody have to do with same problem or like it a little.

Any advice will be welcome,

Thanks already,

Avien
