One last thing (I hope!), when installing a SP on a terminal server do I
need to be in install mode?

I apologise to all for my lack on knowledge but my I.T. department like thin
client but don't know much about it so I have to look after my server
myself!

Many thanks

Surely - you cannot delete the connection used to connect to the server
with.

Console, or Dameware, or VNC,

Phil,

Thank you, I will try that, the machine is at SP3.

One last thing, how do I delete the RDP connection remotely, I currently use
RDP to remotely administer the machine. Will I have to do this on the
console or use something like DaneWare?

Regards

yep just re run the install. (what server pack are you running at?)

With regard to re-creating the the RDP connections, yes delete and then
re-create - it will of course clear out, any setting you had with regard to
disconnection times etc...

Phil,

I've not either of these before!

How do I re-install a service pack, is it simply a case of re-running the
install or do I have to do something clever?

As far as the RDP connection goes, Is it simply a case of deleting the
connection in Terminal Services Configuration and then creating a new one?
If so, will if affect any other settings e.g. on the user profile set-up
where you have Terminal Services properties?

Many thanks

I would suggest re running a Windows Service Pack up to SP3 (not SP4 yet)

Re-creating the RDP sessions may well help

Phil,

Sorry for the delay, I've been out of the office.

All of the printers are locally defined LPR/LPD or port 9100 printers, no
windows sharing. However, it's not just the printers folder. I cannot open
anything that uses the explorer type display, Control Panel, Windows
Explorer, My Computer etc. When I logoff I have to manually end an explorer
process/thread when the prompt pops up!

Cheers

Have you left the window for a long time to see if something happens.

It could be a mis configured WINS/DNS problem leading to long delays in
resolving the available printers?

regards,

Phil

Hi,

My Win2k RDP termianl server has a weird problem. If I go
Start|Settings|Printers nothing happens, no printer window but no hanging.
I've rebooted and tried again, nothing.

I can still use the start menu and run shortcuts from the desktop but I've
also discovered that double clicking My Computer also just gives nothing.

The weird thing is that on trying to log out the system brings up a window
saying "End program - explorer.exe" etc.etc.. This implies to me that an
explorer thread is started for the printers folder or my computer but it
hangs/stops or whatever.

I suppose my questions are...

1) Has anybody seen this before and how can I fix it please?

2) If no-one has seen it how do I start troubleshooting it. I used process
explorer from sysinternals, all very interesting but not much help to a
pharmacist!

Many thanks
