Hi Shane and Ron,

Thanks for your replies and feedback and for those of you who e-mailed me
off the list!

I understand what you are both saying. The issue I have is that if I am to
spend around about $10,000 Australian to do the accelerated training
course, which includes travel and accommodation to Sydney to do the lab,
then surely I should expect up-to-date courseware and methodologies in-line
with Presentation Server 3.0.

Instead, I would rather wait several months until the new courseware is
released. But instead, Citrix have stated that unless we have 1 CCIE by 1st
Jan 2005 we will lose our Gold Partnership. If they are going to place
those sorts of ultimatums on partners, then they need to get their own ship
in order first.

Just a few new Features in PS 3.0 that I believe will effect the
methodologies:
- Consider the new licensing mechanism.
- Consider zone preferences.
- Consider the new speedscreen acceleration for delivering audio and video
content.
- Consider session reliability.
-....and the list goes on.

If these new features effect the way you architect and deploy a solution,
then they ultimately effect the methodologies you use at the architectural
(consulting) and pre-sales level.

I have no choice but to do this course. So instead of looking at it
negatively, I'm looking at it positively. I will certainly be questioning
the trainer and keeping him/her on his/her toes and making sure that I get
what I want out of this course. But when you are paying that much for
training, you would want to expect a very very very polished trainer with
plenty of industry experience.

At the end of the day it is all about respect, which is a two way thing!

Cheers.

 Kind regards,

Hey Jeremy,

Citrix can at times be a difficult organistaion to contact. I was visiting
Fort Lauderdale in May, and as I have been to some degree involved in
reviewing the courseware for the first 2 courses for the CCIA, I had the
same concern about how often it would need to be updated. The project lead
is a guy called, Mark Carter, when I raised this with him, his view was the
same as Anthonys, that the methodologies do not change that often, the way
you make something work might, but the theory behind how you figure out
what is there and what needs to be done does not.

As Anthony also mentions this is based on CCS methodologies, CCS
concentrate their efforts on the Analysis and Design phase of a project,
this encompases in plain english,
Working out what he client has, what the want and how a Citrix solution can
get the client there.
The task then passes, hopefully to a competent reseller to make it then
work.

I also understand your frustration with trying to get information out of
Citrix. I know personally several directors in Florida, but often when I
ask a question I also get silence. I believe that is part of the culture,
and where as we have laws in Aust about what an employer can do to its
employees, they don’t in the US, so at times it may be, they are not
prepared to risk their jobs.

If you want to get in touch with CE in Aust send an email to
training@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or phone 0288700800 and ask to chat to them.

Alternatively as I am teaching some of the CCIA courses drop me a line and
I will try and answer the questions for you, but bear in mind that I do not
work for Citrix.

Cheers

Shane Broomhall

Jeremy,

I appreciate the feedback and I'm sure those that enforce the course
requirements will be interested in your views. I will pass your comments
onto to those concerned.

Cheers,
Anthony

Anthony,

Funny how no one at Citrix would respond to me until I posted to this
forum. I should do this more often.

You can't tell me that you use all the same methodologies and practices as
you did in FR2, given some of the new features in Presentation Server 3.0.
I certainly don't, so what does that mean?

As a product evolves and new features are added there are always better
ways to architect a solution. I want to learn more about the new ways, not
the old ones, as I will never use them in practice.

I'm sure some of the older statesman on this list will agree.

I strongly believe it is wrong and rude of Citrix to force us to complete a
certification that has out-of-date courseware, and believe that it is
extremely overpriced for what it is.

 Kind regards,
 Jeremy

Jeremy,

The Current CCIA program is built around MetaFrame XP FR2 and MetaFrame XP
Presentation Server FR3, Windows 2000 and Windows 2003.

The CCIA program is built around Methodology and Practices rather then
product specifics (this is the arena of the CCEA program) and as such is
less dependent on product versions in its targeted objectives. Very little
of the CCIA program's Practices differs between the current curriculum and
Presentation Server 3.0's specific architecture, the methodology does not
change. E.g. the procedure and tools for conducting application functional,
sociability and scalability testing is not impacted by the MetaFrame
Presentation Server release used.

We have not announced a time frame for updated courseware or exams for the
CCIA program.

With Citrix's Platform / Feature release product release strategy we
release approximately 2-3 updates a year to our product features.
Development time for specific release Methodology and Practices takes a
considerable time, as we aim to use the practical real life experience of
Citrix Consulting in actual deployments this, along with courseware / exam
development prevents us from providing quality updated CCIA components on
release of new product versions.

Please see for http://www.citrix.com/site/SS/training/tests.asp for our
official position on discontinuation, retirement and other policies
regarding Citrix exams.

From a historical perspective Citrix has only had a single recertification
event, on the 1st May 2004, since the introduction of our CCA, CCEA and
CCSP certifications. Note the MetaFrame 1.8 exam continues to count towards
CCA and CCEA certification.

Regards,
Anthony Barr

Hi All,

Has anyone completed this cert, or just the training course.

Has the courseware been updated to contain Presentation Server 3.0
information?

We/I must complete the CCIA before the end of the year to maintain our Gold
Partner status.

Please don't provide any information about the course/lab itself, as that
would be breaking the rules and considered to be cheeting.

For some reason, Citrix seem to be having difficulties confirming whether
or not the courseware is current, and I don't really want to spend the
several thousand dollars on out of dated courseware and labs.

I know this is a bit of a silly post, but please just confirm one way or
the other.

Cheers.

 Kind regards,
 Jeremy
