Yes, and VMware issues can bite harder. Anyone that has dealt with the VMware DRS "feature" (bug) knows what I am talking about:) Original Message: ----------------- From: Steve Greenberg steveg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Thu, 15 May 2008 09:03:05 -0700 To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: CAG as a VM Ah, so "citrix" is not the only bad word in some companies, "vmware" is also! :-) Steve Greenberg Thin Client Computing 34522 N. The redundancy and DR issues should be a more important consideration. The CAG is just a low end server, nothing special. The challenge is to sell the solution to management. The cost of a standard CAG to them is insignificant. The problem is they got bitten on a few VMware issues before I came onboard. So they are being cautious on implementing virtual solutions. They are new to the virtualization arena. But I'd have to ask whether you mean the standard CAG is actually supported? Suuport so you can do do a return to base fix after getting an RA through your reseller when the hardware fails. The likehood of Citrix actually fixing problems on the CAG is historically kind of low. It's a Supermicro rack mount PC with a Citrix front plate. How much is the front plate worth? The CAG is an end-of-life piece of equipment who's only claim to fame is that it's less expensive than it's replacement, though being built on linux it is technically more secure than an IIS server. It's not particularly well locked down, it's not at all optimized or stripped down, and Citrix have done very little to actually develop it any further beyond just fixing severe bugs or providing minimal enhancements. Reliability, redundancy, DR vs minimal support. Are you sure you can't sell that to management? regards, Rick -- Ulrich Mack Quest Software Provision Networks Division On 5/14/08, Mike Semon <msemon@xxxxxxx> wrote: It may work great, unfortunately it is not supported by Citrix.
