We can even setup a pc with no client software and no driver whatsoever,
nothing, and connect to the terminal server via rdp, and using port
redirection get the RS232 reader to work attached to the pc that way, but
when we do the same EXACT thing using a thin client, we get nothing. It
just displays an error message saying that the reader could not be detected?
This makes no sense at all...

We are looking at a different company's readers to use with our thin
clients. They put out a very nice 500 dpi high end reader. They have
readers available in USB and in RS232. With the RS232 reader on a pc, there
is no driver installation necessary. Using port redirection on 2003 TS, do
you know if it would be possible to get an RS232 reader working on a thin
client? Why or why not? So far we have had no luck.

For CE based thin clients, the limiting factor is device driver support.
Identix has worked with thin client vendors to develop a CE device driver
for their USB finger reader.
Other biometric solutions would probably work with XPe or Linux based thin
clients, assuming that there is device driver support for the actual reader.
XPe uses standard XP drivers and Linux based thin clients could be
customized to add Linux drivers.

Bill,
Do you know if there are any future plans to support any other Biometrics
vendors besides Identix? Why have both WYSE and Neoware chosen Identix over
all others to partner with on this?

However, during the Shula's dinner @ iForum, several members requested that
I post any meaningful information.
Neoware CE based thin clients, as well as others, support biometrics using
the Identix solution;
Which includes Biologon server software on a Terminal Server, the Identix
USB finger reader and local device drivers.
The device drivers are included in the standard build for Neoware CE based
thin clients, providing a plug and play environment.
We also support the Xyloc devices on our XPe thin clients.
You can adjust the range of the Xyloc proximity readers and also assign
"preferred" user(s) to specific devices, so that only specific badges are
identified on a particular thin client.
I am also looking into the Biopassword solution but expect it to only
function on our XPe line, at this time, since there are local win32
components required on the client.

Xyloc is pretty slick, but in a call center, when you have people using thin
clients that sit only 6 or 8 feet away from one another, a radio device that
transmits up to 50 feet is an evil, EVIL thing...

Ask him what happens if a user breaks a finger or hand or loses one....how
easy is it to retrain. It is pretty cool stuff. I had a demo of it at
iforum and am pretty impressed.
You need to work at them to get the price down though if you have a lot of
users.
I also think that Xloc device is pretty awesome.

health care to help with hipaa standards you might want to look at Xyloc..a
device that locks your computer as you walk away and unlocks it as you are
