I have watched this topic for the past couple days and have delayed a response just due to the fact that hardly anyone addressed the subject. I was very disappointed when he was "flamed". He does pose a question that everyone here thinks even if they won't admit it. Complaining about pay is also something everyone does. If he is just looking for a place to vent due to something going on at work I'm fine with my bandwidth being used for that just due to the fact that we are a community. We are here to help each other not to ridicule what someone may have to say. Thank you, Ron and yes i am under paid as well ; ) >>> madprofessor@xxxxxxxxxxxxx 02/19/03 05:52AM >>> Tom, Thank you for your comments. I agree with your point, and that's the end of the topic on my part. I personally was looking at it in much the same way. We no longer reward professionals for the time they spend in school or in their homes learning how to run systems efficiently, and the market suffers for it. Cheers, and again apologizing for letting my red Irish temper rear it's ugly head, MadProfessor -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Tom Flanagan Sent: Wednesday, February 19, 2003 4:12 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Betr.: Re: Average Salary? I really think this Average Salary topic has been overdone. But I am a = hypocrite and will add my 2 cents.=20 Judging by the response to the topic it is a hot one. People have said = it is not important what you earn and others have given advice in saying = get you skills up and move on. There has been an oversight here and = that is the one of exploitation. Sure Mad Professor took on the job = knowing the salary but he was probably desperate. His fault you reckon. = He may not even be that much of a hotshot. The point here is, as IT = services become cheaper and cheaper and we drive our market price down = by accepting our brothers plight we all suffer. =20 10 years ago our IT culture pushed itself into the professional = workplace with an attitude of importance and we received good salaries = and respect in the workplace. It seems now..... rather than trying to = move with other professions like lawyers, accountants (don't get me = wrong here..I'm not saying we want to be associated with these guys)on a = salary scale we're happy to see IT people in lower paid jobs end up like = back yard motor mechanics or less. IT is a major factor to the performance of any medium size to large = business. And I have often seen it be neglected in resourcing and = funding thus leading to unrealistic demand being place with little = reward. Give the Professor a raise!!! Not for him but for all of us.
