But if you do it that way, what was the point in repackaging the app in the
first place? I?ve not a fan of repackaging apps as most packagers do no do
a good job at creating snapshots. I spend way too much time cleaning them
up. That said, most modern applications come with an installer that can be
scripted.

Hi Rick,

one can do automatic IM- Installations, I do it this way:

change user /install
start /wait "c:\Programe Files\citrix\installer\aginst.exe" /s n /install
"S:\Citrix\Pakete\Gillardon\Gillardon.wfs"
change user /execute

where in this case S:\ is a mapped networkdrive and Gillardon.wfs is an
previously created IM-Package. this method is part of our scripted Citrix
farm installation and works well. this way I install about 6-7 packages.

Hi Angela,

It's fairly simple to do everything except but the "automatic" IM
installation of apps.

IM installation is never automatic, which to my mind is just as well because
I remember the good old days of IMS when it could spontaneiously uninstall
your apps ;-) But you can make things really easy IM-wise by creating server
and application package grooups.

However provided the apps have silent install switches etc (or are windows
installer packages like office etc) it's also quite easy to add the base
applications to the build.

Do you have the infrastructure for RIS? (DC, DC or member server with a
spare disk partition, DHCP) That'd be about the easiest way for an automated
build if you want to include PS4 and applications.

Email me directly (rick.mack@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx) and I can proably give you
enough to get you started.

regards,

Rick

Subject: [THIN] Automating Citrix installations

Hi

Im looking at designing a new Citrix Presentation Server 4 farm and wish to
automate as much as possible. I was originally going to use Ghost but am
now looking at the following:

- Scripting the OS (Windows 2003 R2) - unattend.txt or equivalent
- Scripting Citrix Presentation Server 4
- Automate Installation Manager so it installs base applications on the new
server
- Server tweaks / customisations

Is this possible? I basically want a process where I can set and forget -
come back 2 hours later to a server that is ready to go. Im aiming for
total automation but I know its probably not possible. If I can automate
the OS + Citrix then I'll be happy. Id like a process I can give to any
technician and guarantee the same server config.

Are there any sites that assist with the scripting required to do this as I
cant script very well... Does anyone have any intelligent scripts they are
happy to share?

Any help appreciated

Thanks
