When I use Auto Created client printers (e.g. when we the user logs on
the printer is created in Citrix (Client\CompName\Printername) the print
job prints very slow. However if I create the printer manually on the
Citrix server pointed to the printers IP address the job then prints
much faster.
The odd thing is I would think that the Auto Created printer would be
faster because the print job is sent inside the ICA session and is
compressed. So over a WAN link (as in this case) I would have thought it
would be faster. About two or so weeks ago it was working just fine
before I applied Citrix SP4 and W2K SP4 Rollup 1 and other security
updates.
Any ideas? Does Citrix XPA SP4 change the way Auto Created printers
print? Are there any tweaks I can do to speed up the printing within ICA
channel? I'm really in a bind to get this working and I don't want to
tear my server apart removing patches when I don't know what patch is
the problem.

Are you setting it as client created printers, or set to print directly
to network printer?

I've found that auto created printers are printing very slowly over wan
links. We use mostly network printers but all the users at remote sites
have auto created printers. If I create a printer on the Citrix server
and point to it with TCP/IP printing it prints much faster 2-3 minutes
vs 10+ minutes using auto created printers for the same print job.
Users are reporting that this is new and started about two weeks ago.
Around that time frame the only change I made was to upgrade Citrix XPA
FR3/SP3 to SP4 and apply Win2K SP4 Rollup 1. Any idea how I can get my
auto created printer to print faster again?
