I haven't seen this in real life, but once chanced upon the following
Microsoft KB about problems with Windows XP and Citrix sessions (it's fixed
in Windows XP SP2), if that's any use:

"A Citrix session may respond very slowly when you log on to the session
from a Windows XP-based computer"
