Hi Hector,

Sorry, I was being careless.

The distiller comes in 2 forms, a distiller server and the distiller printer
driver. The dustiller server is the equivalent of a RIP engine, wjhich is
capable of batch PDF file creation, specced and capable of handling PDF
conversion jobs beyond the capabilities of the localized distiller printer
driver.

Adobe don't take a lot of care to discriminate between the 2 versions of the
distiller and unfortunately neither did I in my definitive statement.

We did some work in a legal office to get the distiller running under
Metaframe, together with Konica network twain etc. I may be confusing the
app flags we used to get network twain going with what we did with
distiller. Will have to see if I can dig it up.

regards,

Rick

Adobe PDF Creation

When creating Adobe PDF files on Windows2000 clients, Distiller Printer,
PDFMaker

and PDFWriter are all supported. PDFWriter is the only supported mechanism
for

creating Adobe PDF files on Citrix clients.

Simultaneous Use of Acrobat, Distiller and Locked Files

A user cannot access the same PDF file from two different clients.

Users on Citrix clients must have administrative privileges to use the
Distiller Printer.

Performance can degrade if multiple users attempt to use the Distiller
Printer

simultaneously because print jobs are queued in the spooler. To alleviate
this

problem, the administrator can set the Distiller Printer property to enable
the spooler

on the server, which allows client applications to finish the print job even
though the

PDF creation job is still pending in the server queue.

Hi Hector,

As unbelievable as it sounds, there's actually an Adobe document for this.

I've enclosed it.

From memory we did a couple of other things but I'll have to dig around.

regards,

Rick

I could never get distiller 5.0 to work on Windows 2000 TS.
I always get a permissions error. Do you follow a special procedure for
installing it?

Hi,

You haven't told us which version of the O.S. (NT4/win2k etc) you're running
on.

Acrobat 6 is the first version of acrobat that doesn't use kernel mode
printer drivers (NT 4.0) for the PDFwriter and distiller.

I couldn't run Acrobat 5.0 on Windows server 2003 because I had disabled
loading of kernel mode printer drivers, so finding out that Acrobat 6.0
didn't was a plus. Of course in the mean time I also discovered that PDF996
version 6.15 and later also used native win2k/2003 non-kernel mode drivers
so Adobe have lost quite a bit of business.

On the other hand, it means that the PDFwriter etc will NOT work on NT 4.0.

Regards,

Rick

I upgraded to Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional on 3
citrix servers and they all have the same problem. I
can not run PDF maker successfully. It fails to print
or convert any file. I get a standar printing error
(retry or cancel).

Any one experiencing the same? Solutions?

Erick
