FYI: HOW TO: Enable Application Compatibility-Mode Technology in Windows 2000 SP2 and SP3 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=3Dkb;en-us;279792 AndyL -----Original Message----- From: Mack, Rick [mailto:RMack@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 06 March 2003 09:51 To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: Access 97 running on W2K TS - MF FR2 Hi Tom, Win2k was an improvement in terms of non-windows mode printer drivers and better system stability, but a step backwards in many instances when it comes to support for terminal services. Reversion to workstation defaults and a more poorly controlled application environment are 2 examples. One thing that definitely might help, aside from products like tmulimit, appsense performance manager, threadmaster and (damn, I've forgotten teknica's product, sorry Alex!) is using application compatibility mode. This was quietly installed by SP2 (from memory, flakey ;-)) and can be turned on by registering a DLL, slayerui.dll in %systemroot%AppPatch. Application properties will then have a compatibility tab as on Windows XP and Server 2003. W2K TS - Citrix MF FR2. We rebuilt our systems from NT4.0 TSE to W2K sp3. Clean rebuilds. We run about 5 different access 97 databases. The DBs were developed in-house using unconventional database design techniques. There could be 20 users running Access at any one time on a server and this would grind to a halt. Hardware on the servers is (Dual Pentium 1Ghz) [2GB ram] {4gig pagefile} on seperate disc. Plenty of diskspace =20 In the end I have reverted back to the NT4.0 build. =20 =20 Is this an access 97 / W2K thing. I have found some comments that suggest Microsoft know about this problem but are just ignoring it. Is anybody running this app effectively or have any of you had performance issues here. =20 HELP??? =20 =20 Regards =20 Tom Flanagan IT Network Administrator Kailis & France Foods Ph: +61 8 9273 6281 Mob: 0408 927 247 email: tom.flanagan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx =20 =20 =20 ********************************************************* This Week's Sponsor - ThinPrint Simply the best print solution for Citrix Metaframe and Microsoft Terminal Services! http://www.thinprint.com ********************************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or=20 set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------- The information contained in this e-mail is confidential and may be subject to legal professional privilege.
