Not sure if I fully understand your question, but in a truly mixed mode
domain (ie NT4 DCs as well as W2K), only the W2K DC(s) can be the PDC
emulator.

Whether it can be transferred if there are other W2K DCs in the domain,
whilst in mixed mode, I can't comment - because I've only ever done it in
native mode domains.

As to what will happen, when you upgrade your NT4 PDC to W2K (which is what
you should do - it should be the PDC that is upgraded), it will have all the
FSMO roles, as well as the special / magic first W2K DC in a domain, type
properties.
