Well they are demoing Google Earth via XenDesktop here...

You can download a XenDesktop POC and try it.

well we definitely don't' care about flash, talking more about applications
that require some 3d rendering support like the Bing and Google map
applications that do 3D.

Some if it works on XenApp like HDX for Flash. You'll need to be fairly up to

Thanks for bringing up HDX, i have done some reading now.. It looks like this
is strictly for XenDesktop.. any chance that they have HDX working with XenApp
you think?

I think the key here is that if you need proper 3D functionality, you might
want to check out HDX 3D Graphics. However, this relies on you running
XenDesktop on workstation blade. Effectively one user per blade. This is the
basis for Flexcast, choosing the best solution for the type of user. Otherwise
HDX for Flash might be okay, I think some of your apps are Flash based? Would
need tested, I think latency has to be quite low and depends on the
implementation of Flash.

I've gone to http://hdx.citrix.com to get the URL and it looks like they've
change the options again, so probably best heading over there initially and
seeing what options are best.

Have you tried the new features available in HDX?

Whether or not virtual desktops would be better is kind of a loaded question.
Maybe, maybe not.

I have seen demos of advanced 3d graphics in both XenApp and XenDesktop
environments and I know it is in fact possible.

we are looking to maybe replace our desktops and just give all our users a
Citrix Desktop (full screen publish desktop).
The one problem we see is we can't use applications like Bing Maps 3D or Google
Earth which some of our users actually need to use.
Our Dell servers don't support 3d in their video nor can they have PCI Express
video cards. We are quoting servers now and Dell still can't do it. We might
try HP next.

How is everyone getting around this? Do you buy servers somewhere else? Would
virtual desktops be better instead of XenApp?
