I have resulted to adding Per device license as there is no way to track
which users have used licenses, as Ryan said.
Management Limitations for User CALs
A Windows Server 2003-based Terminal Server Licensing Server that is
running in TS User CAL licensing mode does not decrement the number of
available Windows Server 2003 TS CALs when each user connects to the
terminal server. This is a limitation in the Terminal Services Manager
utility (TSadmin.exe). This limitation does not remove the
responsibility from administrators to make sure that a valid TS CAL is
obtained for each connected user, per the End User License Agreement

I do not believe as of yet that Per User licenses are tracked within
License Management console. Microsoft has not provided a method of
assigning a token to a particular user.=3D3D20
If your Terminal Services Configuration on the TS is set to "Per User",
I'd log on a new device and see if the number of temp licenses goes up.
It should not. You just won't see a license being taken.

Hello all,
I have installed and activated a Windows Server 2003 Licensing Server on
a domain controller and added per user Cal's. My Windows Server
2003/Citrx FR3 Application Server has been configured as Per User
licensing. The problem is, the Licensing server is only handing out
Temporary per Device Cal's instead of the per user licensing that I have
installed. I want to use the per user licensing method because it is a
better method of licensing for an ASP.
Any suggestions?

Hi Jesse,
Yes, you specify upfront. This is something that you select when
installing
a Terminal Server. A single 2003 license server can handle both types.
The "per user" type license is not managed at this time, so "no" it will
not
prevent you from doing what you do.

Moving from windows 2000, to 2003 and had a question about the TS CAL

1) Do you need to specify up front which you want when ordering? Device

User? or is this selectable when installing the TS license server?
2) In our environment, we have a generic login for a specific business
area
- If we choose a per user, will this prevent the generic account to
login to
multiple devices?
I am more and more concerned with 2003 licensing because a lot of users
login remotely through CSG, which eats up another device cal. And with
not
allowing XP/2000 built in any more, that could be very very costly. This
is
why I like the per user model, but I don't see how this would work with
the
generic login. Just more of an excuse to move away from generic logins -
hate em.
I've been reading Ron and Brian's TS2003 - Just got done with the
license
