The word *Shechinah* is most often translated as, “Hashem’s
Presence”. But this is not what it means. Hashem is present everywhere at
all times. This is inevitable… Hashem is Infinite. *Shechinah* comes from
the word, “to dwell.” It actually means, “Hashem’s *Revealed* Presence”.
The purpose of the Torah and its *mitzvahs*, indeed the purpose of the
Jew being in the World, is to reveal Hashem’s Presence. We are told that
Hashem’s Presence is revealed only in joy. This is holy joy that comes from
doing the *mitzvahs* thankfully; thankful that we have the *mitzvahs*, and
thankful that we are able to fulfill them. The actual joy that comes, comes
with the *Shechinah*, which is the greatest joy man can experience in this
Search for Hashem’s Presence. It is right here, but It is hiding,
waiting for us to want to see Him.
