There is currently a non-chaseable Varied Thrush in an El Paso backyard. The owner of the house happened to have made the acquaintance of one of our avid birders and conservationists a few years ago at a local nesting site of White-tailed Kite which was published in a conservation newsletter sent out by one of our sanctuaries. This homeowner remembered where our birder worked and sent him some photos of the thrush and asked him about ID. The homeowner stated that the VATH had been present in his yard since February. A neighbor stated that she had seen this bird for two or three winters! She was aware that it was "different", but didn't know how to report it. A photo from this morning can be seen at <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/89595062@N02/13487761085"; title="DSC_0474 by jmgroves, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5493/13487761085_f24931bac5.jpg"; width="500" height="332" alt="DSC_0474"></a> I bring this up because of the nature of the find. The more we get the public interested in what shows up in their yards, the more amazing finds we will have, even if they are not particularly accessible. Who knows what shows up in our neighbors yards. Food for thought.
