Here is more information on the hummer cam that went live on Thursday.
This has been in the works for some time and the decision on where to put
it was not an easy one. Five different sites were discussed. No public
location was available and in the end a site was chosen that had the
highest diversity and thus, the best viewing experience for the audience.
The birding community needs to keep several things in mind with respect to
this set up.
First, it is NOT in a public location. The location is at a private
residence that currently is not occupied full-time. It is accessible only
by 4wd, in a private subdivision on private roads that are owned by the
property owner's association. The only way to visit the site is by direct
invitation of the property owner. Therefore, for obvious reasons the exact
location will never be disclosed on the Cornell University web site.
In the meantime, the site has had a well accepted start with over 900
viewers logging almost 3000 hours of view time in the first four hours it
went live. So, please enjoy and watch to your heart's desire!
