Hi Texbirds, Took a break from painting because the cupboard was bare. You can only live on waffles and cereal for so long before you start craving fresh fruit and veggies! So off I went to the food co-op on Guadalupe. Since I was in the neighborhood I stopped at the Triangle pond at 45th and Guadalupe. I haven't been there in a while and was curious to see how the water level was after the decent rains we've had in the last few months. The water was pretty high but there was a dry area with a little mud on the northeast end. I arrived about 2:30p so it was pretty dead, but I still got a few nice critters. The only birds I saw on the water were 3 American Coots, 1 Least Grebe, and 1 Pied-billed Grebe. Several Purple Martins were skimming the pond, as were a few Barn Swallows. Four Monk Parakeets flying overhead provided a dash of bright color to the avian set. The best bird was my FOS Chimney Swift, a single bird. All it takes is one CHSW to make you say, "Life is good!" I kept seeing movement in the tall grasses on the pond's edge. I was hoping for some warblers, wrens, or sparrows, but each of the 3 times I got to see the cause of the movement it turned out to be another Anole displaying his fluorescent dewlap. Those frisky fellows were in high gear! Now, back to painting....
