Plenty of Butterflies and Dragonflies today (04/23), but some way-cool Birds as well(single Birds unless otherwise noted): Broad-winged Hawks(5), Swainson's Hawks(2), Red-shouldered Hawks(2), Harris's Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk, White-tailed Hawk, Baltimore Orioles(6), Orchard Orioles(2), Indigo Buntings(2), Painted Bunting, Black-throated Green Warblers(7 - all males), Nashville Warblers(6), Tennessee Warblers (4), Black-and-White Warbler. Surprise creature of the day was a very beautiful(and very hungry) Sphinx Moth. Way-cool indeed... Yesterday(04/22), while scouting for an early May TOS field trip that Libby Even is leading at Lake Corpus Christi State Park, and the Knolle Farms area, we had at the State Park: Audubon's Oriole, Painted Bunting, Olive Sparrow, Fulvous Whistling Duck, Spotted Sandpiper. Knolle Farms: a brief visit produced Red-tailed Hawk, Swainson's Hawk, Vermilion Flycatcher, and Pyrrhuloxia. Also yesterday, a few miles West of Orange Grove, on FM624; Libby and I found 20 Swainson's Hawks(including 2 rufous morphs), 5 Crested Caracaras, 2 Scissor-tailed Flycatchers, and 2 Eastern Kingbirds - all in or near a recently plowed field.
