Hi Mark, The pale trapezoid of the backlit wing makes this either a Ferruginous Hawk or a Juvenile of either Red-tailed, Broad-winged, or Rough-legged Hawk. I think the wings are not pointed enough for Ferruginous, and they are too long for Broad-winged (season aside). A few of the pics seem a very good fit for Juvenile Rufous Western Red-tailed. If you can edit the pics, add +1 to +2 exposure levels or reduce the shadows and you may get a very identifiable pic. --------------------------------------------------------------------- > > Date: Sun, 27 Jan 2013 07:28:46 -0600 > Subject: [texbirds] RFI - Help with Hawk? > From: Mark Scheuerman <mark.scheuerman@xxxxxxxxx> > > I would appreciate any thoughts on this highly cropped, poorly photoed hawk > from my backyard in Sugar Land yesterday. > > https://picasaweb.google.com/104360545628872140517/20130127?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCLCWubPlyNafHA&feat=directlink > > Mark Scheuerman > Sugar Land, TX > > > > Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
