This seems a no-brainer to me....to NOT do so. I am not a "pro" birder, as I've said before...but I am a very experienced Naturalist, and I've made many observations of the impact humans...even well-intentioned ones...have on the natural world. And I believe those of us with experience observing the natural world, and an understanding of it's vulnerabilities, have a duty to protect it from those who do not, especially in today's combination situation of higher population (of people) and all the stresses that the natural world is under from changed and intensified weather patterns and events, and from humans. I'm a firm believer that it is ok...no, NECESSARY....that there be places with NO human interaction for Nature to carry on as it will. I have spent much time 'off-trail' (lived 20+ years in the Wilderness in California) and have had the immense pleasure of experiencing Nature on its own. When I started this, I was very young (a teen) and gave no thought to my intrusion...only felt drawn to go deep into "wild". Very soon, though, I observed the impact I had, however slight (I was raised knowing how to "go deep" and leave little impact), on the areas I went to, and the denizens there, and curtailed going to such places as much. I also ceased telling others of some of the things I saw, as that had led to more intrusion by them. I feel if a person understands the importance of Nature being able to carry on, then the question of whether or not to divulge location information is answered. And as for the 'need' for information (ie: bird counts), certainly there's a common-sense to that as well. And I feel it is only necessary if it leads to us humans helping protect what we observe. I feel that's the pros' area; I help when and where and when I safely can, but I do not feel that in the larger picture that just everyone 'needs' to see everything. Just my 2¢....or maybe 20¢ with inflation.
