The wind map, whose usefulness as a migration-watching tool has still yet to be firmly established in my opinion, shows winds blowing from the SW to the NE would suggest that circum-Gulf migrants from the south Texas region may be steered toward southern LA (Western Tanagers, Clay-colored Sparrows, Lazuli Buntings, etc.). East of that air flow the winds are still N-S. At noon the bird movement, while not heavy, was clearly in line with the wind map with N movement parallel to the coastline, clearly rounding the curvature of the coast N and then NE and continuing to the eastern NEXRAD stations. It is nice when the winds and the radar are in agreement. John C.
