Analysing NEXRAD images and other weather instrumentation at this time of
year is mostly commenting on the predictable. Yes there are still birds
moving in volume, though numbers will be trailing off dramatically very
soon. The flights will consist largely of females, flycatchers, thrushes,
and other traditionally late migrants. It takes less "weather" to put birds
down along the coast that earlier in the season. Having said that, what
will almost surely be the last weather-related fallout should occur early
this week as an unusually strong late-season cold front crosses the coast
with significant rain.
On the other hand what very late spring migration lacks in numbers and
spectacular plumages it often produces some outstanding rarities
(Sulphur-bellied Flycatchers and other over-shoot migrants for example).
