The mass of showers has pretty much moved out of Texas into Louisiana by
early afternoon. Its leading edge was approaching Baton Rouge. Numerous
flocks that I have a feeling are Franklin's Gulls are moving S to N over
Brownsville, but of course I don't know that for sure. The Corpus NEXRAD is
in Clear Air mode, its extra high resolution mode even though there have
been showers in its coverage most of the day. I dislike trying to pick out
bird reflectivity in Clear Air mode because they can be easily overlooked
in the reflectance from pollen, dust, smoke etc. and in the specific case
of Corpus the semipermanent area of temperature inversion that exists
inland of the coast 20 or 30 miles that can give the false impression of a
great deal of activity that in fact is nothing. Be that as it may, Corpus
NEXRAD also shows flock movement that may be raptors, coastal species, and
some that are probably trans-Gulf migrants making landfall.

Houston eastward is mostly obscured with precipitation returns with no
identifiable bird returns. The forecast for the coming week is not very
exciting, with the next major weather event coming next weekend, which
looks like it could be good coastal birding.
