Upper winds were SE to SSW and a uniform 12ikts around the western Gulf. A
fairly heavy flight was overflying the Brownsville NEXRAD site beginning to
form the diagnostic halo or doughnut-shaped configuration of reflectance.
The more northerly sites were just beginning to show incoming bird echoes
moving roughly twice the speed of the posted winds, showing that these
reflected targets were indeed organisms with powered flight, not just
moving with the speed of the winds. Given these conditions, and the
forecast weather conditions for the next couple of days, it appears that
another round of migrant-rich birding is on tap for the weekend.
