Tripp,
It is most likely a post-breeding disperser. They definitely don't breed 
anywhere closer to the LRGV than NE Texas and breeders there are pretty 
scarce.

I just photographed an american redstart (female?) at the water feature in 
Santa Anna NWR...I was surprised to see that bird in the heat of summer in 
the RGV much less central texas...Is this unusual or do they breed in the 
RGV area?
