I did the Mad Island Marsh Preserve CBC on Monday. The 28 degree temperature
and icy north winds made for very challenging conditions. I joined the midnight
shift on the ATVs for the rail hunt, and we found eight Yellow Rails, two
Virginia Rails and one Sora. Once the sun was up the highlights included four
Bald Eagles, two each of Nelson's and LeConte's sparrows, Sedge Wrens, a Great
Horned Owl, White-tailed Kite and Aplomado Falcon.
