TexBirders, I’d like to make a request of folks who have or are planning on doing some birding at the Striped Sparrow location in Williamson County (“Williamson Co.—CR428 & CR361”, recently added by John Berner). Some folks who also birded at nearby Granger Lake have included long lists of waterbirds seen at the latter location in their checklist for the riparian woodland spot where the sparrow has hung out. That offers a terribly confusing picture of what birds are in which location or are associated with what types of habitat. If you have the time and have entered an eBird checklist for the Striped Sparrow and included sightings from more than, say, a mile away in substantially different habitats, please consider splitting your checklst accordingly. There are already over a dozen eBird HotSpots, including one general one for “Granger Lake Area (HOTE 031)”, in the vicinity. Zoom in on this map to see them: http://ebird.org/ebird/tx/hotspots or you may create your own personal location for a different area if needed. This will help future researchers using eBird data to understand distribution, occurrence, and habitat preferences better for birds in this diverse area. Thanks!
