This afternoon I ran down to the Anahuac NWR and went and checked out the Skillern Tract first. Fairly quite down there so I headed back towards the main refuge to try and find the Golden Eagle reported by Joe Kennedy the other day. As I was headed back I looked up and there was the White Headed hawk that caused all the fuss about 3 weeks ago. This time it was not quite as spooky as before and I managed to get close enough to get some fair pictures of it in flight. All are highly cropped. Next I headed into the refuge and shot this one picture of a White-tailed Kite that had just jumped off of tree. When I got to the office they told me the Golden Eagle had been seen over around Shoveler Pond so I headed out there. I did not find an eagle there but did find this one lone Ibis feeding around the edge of Shoveler Pond. Maybe someone can help me with Glossy or White-faced. I did see an eagle down by the flooded field off the left side of the main road heading to the bay. As I was watching it with my bino's way out there it struck me the neck looked very short but before I could get out of the car and set the scope up it was gone. Down by the bay there were quite a few Horned Grebes, a couple of Red-breasted Mergansers and one Common Loon. Down the road parallel with the bay there was another Krieder's Red-tailed Hawk sitting on a fence post. I could not believe it let me drive right up to it, turn the car off, shoot pictures and start up and drive away and it was still sitting there. I'll have to go back for the eagle I guess. http://smu.gs/1jzzAfs David Hanson Baytown/Mont Belvieu Area Chambers County Galveston Bay Area Master Naturalist TOS Member Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
