Hi, all! Valley Nature Center's field trip this month will be to Boca Chica; no telling what may show up with migration well under way, but a definite hoped-for target will be the Aplomado Falcon along the road, plus a good variety of other raptors (including White-tailed Hawk and Crested Caracara) and shorebirds (including Wilson's, Snowy, and Piping Plovers). Reddish Egrets are often seen by the dozens, and past trips have even kicked up Barn Owl! Possible Valley landbirds include Groove-billed Ani, among the regulars, and one year we even had a Black-headed Grosbeak (not guaranteed, by any means)! Depending on the condition of the beach, we'll drive or poke around on foot (Linda may find us some Sea Beans :-)); interesting birds that are coming through north of here include Magnificent Frigatebird and Red Knot, so who knows what we may find? Meet at the Stripes at the intersection of US 77 and 511 at 7:30 (date is this coming Saturday the 28th), and we'll carpool from there. See you there!
