. The Chucks are back! My FOS. 2 calling this evening, with one
virtually in my yard, also a somewhat distant Whip (150-200 yds.)....So I
don't get it...I listened carefully last night and during peak calling time
early this morning before dawn and heard nothing but Barred Owls, roosters,
horny cardinals, Uplands etc....Then suddenly tonight they are here...Just
like that?? I thought they were strictly nocturnal migrants. So far this
spring the Whips have all been calling from a particular area to my NW
which has a deepish canyon with really huge Cedar Elm, ash, oak and other
hardwoods and all calls seemed equal-distant from the cabin. One Chuck is
still calling as I wrap this up. 8:38PM
